I am having a pool party and I invited some friends over. I have decided to serve alcoholic and mixed drinks, since most of my friends drink. But I want to be sure that nobody gets too much and later becomes nasty or worse, throws up in my pool! How do I set alcohol limits? Or is there such a thing?
Having limited alcohol at the party will prevent people from getting too drunk and untoward incidents happening. This way, when people want to keep coming back for more you can tell them that it's "unfortunately over"
In the french holiday resort "Club Med" for the people not to get too drunk they use an old trick, they put very little alcohol in the cocktails. For example they pre-make a punch in a huge container with 1/4 of the normal alcohol dosage so that people enjoy drinking without the side effects! What ever you do, don't leave it to the guests to mix the drinks.
Serve the food earlier than the alcoholic drinks. When the stomach is at least semi-full, the alcohol is processed a bit slower. People who drink on empty stomachs easily get drunk.
Unfortunately, serving alcohol in pool parties is the same as driving under the influence... they both invite disaster. Someone throwing up in your pool is the least of your worries. What you should be more concerned about is the safety of your guests, especially the tipsy ones. People who are drunk can be subject to any of these mishaps: touching the grill with their bare hands, knocking over other guests into the pool, or falling into the pool and drowning.
Alex is right. We had a St Patricks Day party mixed with a pool party once and it wasn't a good idea at all. People were falling into the pool with the plates and the food. It was a real mess. So if you really want to make a pool party cut on the alcohol.
