I was planning to have balloons for a kiddie party I will be hosting, but I was disturbed upon reading a thread here about how unsafe balloons can be. Can you give me suggestions on possible alternatives to balloons? We're having the party in a pool, and we so wanted to have a balloon fight.

A balloon fight sounds fun (although it won't really be a balloon fight without a balloon)! Anyway, check if you can use zip lock bags or something similar. You can still have water fights without having to worry about latex allergies or suffocation.

Although the balloon fight is one of the most popular water games, there a lot of other games that are equally fun yet do not need balloons. I personally love the penny hunt. You have to throw several pennies into the pool, and the kids race to get them. You can mark the pennies with colors and assign points to each color, so you can determine the overall winner after.
