games for family night 4 Months ago
My husband and I have decided one night a week our children will not watch television; instead, we will have a night in which to play games together as a family. The children are not looking forward to it. I need some fun game ideas that will persuade them to think differently.

Monopoly is a great game for families. It helps with arithmetic, has toy like symbol characters as players and can last for as long as you wish. Plus, there is some luck involved with the roll of the dice so that children can beat the parents.

What a lovely idea, Sophie! It really is great to do fun things with the family. I'm sure your kids will love the time you and your husband spend with them.

You should have charades. It enhances your kids' imagination and confidence. Sometimes, you can also move your family bonding time to the afternoons, so you can play outdoor games like badminton, kickball or baseball. You can also do gardening together.

I agree. Having a family bonding time is a great idea.

Here are two of my favourite games:

1) Scrabble - It's fun connectiong words, and learning new ones, as well.

2) Word Factory - It's a little noisy, but so enjoyable! Even the shaking of the letter cubes is fun!

Hmm.. From the list I gave, I see that I like word games!

My parents did this as well. As a child, my brother and I always enjoyed putting together large jigsaw puzzles with my parents. They framed all of the ones we put together and still have them in their home today. Every time I visit and see the framed puzzles a smile to come my face remembering the four of us sitting at the table laughing and working together.

Excellent idea. We loved playing with my grandchildren when they were small, charades, hangman, memory and any board games they fancied.
For older children why not try easy science experiments, there are loads of these books , make things with wood or paper such as origami. Why not try cooking lessons you could even prepare things ready for the weekend which would leave you free to go places with them
