I've heard that some types of balloons are harmful to kids. How would I know which ones are dangerous? Our community is planning to throw a simple party for the kids in a nearby children's home.

I'm not sure what are the different kinds of balloons as I am not a balloon expert myself, but having organized a few kiddie parties, I have learned that Helium-filled balloons (the ones that float and have strings attached to them) are not safe.

Kids often like to play with the Helium since inhaling it will make their voices sound like chipmunks. However, it causes some sort of disturbance in the flow of oxygen in the body, and this may have serious effects.

To be on the safe side, just go with the air-filled balloons. They are the ones that are attached to sticks since they don't float.

By the way, I forgot to mention how wonderful and noble your idea is - having a party for the kids in the children's home. I hope the world can have more people like you and your community members.

I have not had balloons in the recent parties I organized, and would not recommend it to others, too. I found out that there are millions of people who are actually allergic to latex, which is the main component of balloons. Symptoms range from difficulty in breathing to lack of consciousness.

I know that a children's party without balloons would be like a birthday cake without candles. The balloons and candles are nice extras, but we can always do away without it.

I know they doesn't exactly replace balloons but how about mexican pinatas kids love them I think you can buy them but if you have the courage they;re not difficult to make with papier mache
