dinner party gift guest etiquette 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago

I have been asked by a friend to attend a dinner party as his guest. I do not know the hostess nor will I know the other couples attending the party. Should I bring a gift to the hostess of the dinner party?

Of course, you should, honey. It's proper courtesy. But since you don't personally know the hostess, you may ask your friend what she would probably like or you may just choose a general gift - something that most people usually appreciate. You can bring her flowers, a bottle of wine or a specialty tea basket.

I believe it is appropriate for each couple to bring one gift to the host or hostess of a dinner party. When doing so, the expense of the gift should be doubled to that of what one guest would bring. Perhaps you should offer to bring the gift on behalf of both of you.
