Just another quick poll, everyone. Should wedding guests be expected to cover the cost of their plate?

Guests should not be expected to do that, although I usually try to cover mine when I attend weddings.

As a recent bride myself, I did not expect my guests to cover their plate. I just want them to be there and enjoy the celebration with us.

It actually works two ways.
If you're the host, don't expect your guests to cover their plate. If you can't afford a party, why have one?
If you're the guest, try to cover your plate. Although that is not really obligatory, it would be helpful to share with the expenses.
