Re-gifting 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I just received a coffeemaker as a hostess gift. But I already have a coffeemaker, and I like my old one better. Next week, I will be attending the wedding anniversary party of my high school buddies. I'm thinking of giving them the new coffeemaker as a gift. Is this appropriate?

Would you believe we received 3 microwave ovens as wedding presents?! We didn't sign up for any wedding registry, so we ended up with 3 of the same thing. What did we do with our 3 microwave ovens? Well, we kept 1 for our home, gave 1 to my mom and gave the 3rd one as a wedding gift to our friends who married some months after. So, in my opinion, it's perfectly fine.

Personally, I think re-gifting is alright if the reason is having 2 or more of the same thing. I would never give to someone else a gift I received yet didn't like. It's just like passing on a lousy gift.

Also, when re-gifting, you have to be very careful in choosing the person you will be giving it to. You should remember who gave the coffeemaker to you, so you can avoid giving it to someone close to its original giver or worse, to the original giver herself!

I would not give the coffeemaker as an anniversary gift. The odds are the couple will receive 2-3 makers at the party since it is such a standard item. Your unused coffeemaker will be one of them. I would save it for an emergency gift should someone you may not know very well surprise you with a Christmas gift this year.
