spills at parties 2 Months ago
I recently went to a cocktail party in which a guest spilled their martini. The hostess rushed over with cleaning products and began scrubbing the carpet. This embarrassed the person and all but stopped the party. But how do you address cleaning up spills without making such a fuss?

That is sad. The first thing that you need to avoid when throwing a party is making your guests feel uncomfortable for being there.

I would probably just get my handy mop with me, wipe the floor off to avoid someone slipping on it and tell my guest that it was alright.

This has happened at a party I was hosting. The guest was very apologetic and offered to clean up the spill. I insisted that is was not an issue. At a normal walking pace, I went to the kitchen, got several paper towels, dampened one of them with spot cleaner then blotted the spill. After the party, is when I followed up with a more intensive cleaning product.

I hope she didn't actually get the vacuum cleaner and start making all the noise.

Anyway, a good host must know that spills are part of a party. You don't want your guests to be too careful not to spill anything to a point that all they actually do during the party is look at the floor or the carpet!

Just be ready with paper towels or with a handy mop, as mentioned by the two other posters, and everything will be fine.
