A group of friends and I are starting up a traveling dinner party. It begins at one person’s home who is responsible for the appetizers and cocktails. We leave to go to another home for the next course and so on. I have read it is best to have themes for progressive dinner parties. What would be the best theme to start with? We want to make sure the first one is a huge success

Consider honoring one famous chef for your theme. You could start with Julia Child, Emeril Lagasse or some other chef that has a very colorful personality. This would give each host some freedom to decorate yet still have a basic theme and similar cooking style.

Have you considered an Oriental Express progressive dinner party? Someone else on the forum is inquiring about this as a dinner party theme. The Oriental Express does travel from one place to another, as your dinner group will be doing, thus your hostesseses could represent a different city along the way.
