African theme dinner party 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago

My brother and his wife had to cancel their African safari trip. To help relieve their disappointment, I thought it would be nice to have a dinner party with an African theme for them and 6 other guests. I am not familiar with African foods, wines, décor accents and other cultural ceremonies to use as games. For those of you touring Africa or attending such a themed party before, I could certainly use your assistance.

How very thoughtful of you to plan such a dinner. You could ask your guests to either make up their faces using face clown paint or dress based on an animal the couple would have seen while on safari. There are plenty of animal patterned shirts on the market plus face painting kits. Just a thought to add more colour to your party.

Some menu ideas are: plantains in coconut milk (East African dish), okra and greens (Central African dish), Maharaqwe which is a red bean dish and, Chicken & Groundnut Stew (groundnuts are the African term for peanuts and used often in cooking).
