I know halloween has got a bit lost, except of course in the States, but I think it has lots of possibilities as an excuse for a party the decorations are easy and the theme is already there.
I don't know how kids can be afraid of ghosts and still go trick-or-treating while wearing the costumes of the characters they fear most!
I failed to mention that my brother's family now lives in the US, and my nieces and nephews love Halloween the American way. They have costume parties and pumpkin lanterns outside their homes. It's almost as merry as Christmas but with an entirely different setup.
If you want to really get into the Halloween spirit take a look at the blog posted on making your own teapot or tea dress costume. Halloween is a great way to meet neighbors that we have failed to take the time do so before. This can be accomplished by either having a Halloween party or walking your child from door to door for candy.
