Variation of teas and teapot sets 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
While shopping for a tea and teapot set gift, I noticed some sets include cups or mugs. Whereas other sets exclude the cups yet have vessels for milk and sugar. Which is considered a teapot set?

Plus, some descriptions of the teapot claim it to be for certain teas. Is there not a universal teapot?

I think that, traditionally, a teapot set would consist of the following: tea pot, tea saucers, tea bowls and tea tray.

True, nowadays, a lot of 'definitions' for a teapot set have emerged. But I think this is a welcome change. I believe the variety is actually due to the basic nature of humanity to constantly seek for improvement.

Very well said, Cary. I agree with Cary. We have been looking for the perfect tea set for us, and our unique personalities gave birth to the different varieties of tea sets or teapots available. Entrepreneurs always improve their products to meet the demands of the clients.

At home, I have several teapots made of different materials like glass, silver, porcelain and terracotta clay. I visited the Blog section of this site and I saw unique teapots I'd very much like to add to my collection.

Hello, Rachel. If you're referring to why tea enthusiasts have several teapots, for different teas, when we practically need only one, then it would be because teapots sometimes absorb the aroma and flavour of the tea previously brewed in it. So, to preserve the natural flavour of the tea, I use different teapots for different kinds of tea.

I believe that clear glass borosilicate teapots and glass cups are necessary for flowering teas in which the beauty of the flower blossoming as it steeps in the pot is important or the color of the tea in the cup makes it special. Whereas, with oolong tea, a milk and sugar bowl is appropriate for flavouring, thus the tea set should include these components as part of the beauty and enjoyment instead of cups in the set.

I think the reason for the varying tea sets now is because of the many different types of teas available. Some teas need no sugar or milk thus the set should be the pot and cups.
